Greetings from Kevin Richardson, Halt the Harm Network, 8/10/23
The recording for “Fracking Through the Cracks: The Halliburton Loophole & Unregulated Chemicals in Fracking” is now available on Halt the Harm’s network.
Some 30 Tractor Trailer Loads of Chemicals Hidden in Industry Data
At the webinar, Vivian Underhill and Gary Allison gave us a fascinating breakdown of how oil & gas companies are exploiting legal loopholes to use toxic chemicals in fracking without adequate oversight.
They dug through the data to illustrate the massive amount of chemicals used in fracking. Their presentation showed us how the Halliburton Loophole allows the industry to use chemicals normally regulated under the Safe Water Drinking Act without oversight.
Vivian and Gary also talked about the industry’s efforts to hide the identity of numerous chemicals they use by claiming them as proprietary.
At the end of the webinar, Gary demonstrated how to use the Open-FF tool to dig through the disclosure data to identify what chemical fracking companies are using at specific sites and in what quantities.
