Let’s Close the Book on the PennEast Pipeline, from Penna. to New Jersey

Let’s face it. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission has almost never met a pipeline it didn’t like, so it’s no surprise that it likes the PennEast pipeline. It’s one of the reasons we have been pressuring other key stakeholders, like the affected states, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and the Delaware River Basin Commission to say no to the pipeline.

Of course, PA Governor Wolf’s DEP jumped at the chance to grant the permits that would stop the pipeline if denied. (I’m not 100% sure that his PA-DEP has ever denied a permit of any kind, but that’s another story.)

NJ Governor Phil Murphy’s DEP took a different approach, a rational one that put the safety of the people above all else. The agency looked at the same permit application and saw the missing and misleading information and declared its review “administratively closed”.

We called on the Delaware River Basin Commission to do the same. In fact, many of you signed our petition at the time. Thanks!!

The Commission has yet to follow New Jersey’s lead and close the book on PennEast, but Governor Murphy is now the chair of the DRBC, so we’re directing our new petition at him.

We’re asking Governor Murphy to show the same leadership he has shown in New Jersey and close the book on the PennEast pipeline.
