Environmental justice at issue. Union Grove Church, Union Hill, Buckingham County, VA
Dear Friends and Concerned Citizens:
On Wednesday, the remaining members of the State Air Pollution Control Board are going to vote on the air permit for the Atlantic Coast Pipeline (ACP) Buckingham compressor station.
This project is proposed to be sited on the land of a former plantation, just a few feet away from a majority African-American community called Union Hill. Many of the residents of the community – and Virginians from all over – have identified this proposal as nothing other than environmental injustice, and we haven’t been quiet about it. Now, with less than 48 hours until a potential vote, we need to come together again to make our voices heard one more time.
That’s why we are joining our friends with Virginia Interfaith Power and Light for an all-night interfaith vigil in Richmond starting the night before the hearing. On Tuesday, December 18, environmental activists and people of all faiths are coming together to celebrate the power of prayer, love, and community before we walk into the Air Board hearing on December 19.
Join us on Tuesday, December 18 anytime between 7:30 PM to midnight for the Concert of Prayer: Stand with Union Hill in Richmond! Come for an hour or stay all night.
Then, on Wednesday, December 19, we’ll head over to the Air Pollution Control Board meeting to show up in support of the residents of Union Hill and Buckingham County, and to witness the decision. The meeting will begin at 10:00 AM in Richmond.

This is the last state permit needed for the ACP, and it has been the most contentious. With the help of climate fighters like you, I know that we can stop this horrible display of environmental injustice before it is too late! A “No” vote on this permit would be a huge setback for the pipeline as a whole and it will send a powerful message to Dominion — vulnerable communities will no longer be dumping grounds for your dirty fossil fuel projects. If you come out for Union Hill then you come out for all Virginians.
