Yes, we have a new governor and a new House of Delegates. But we still have some really old problems. One is called the Atlantic Coast Pipeline. The other is the Mountain Valley Pipeline. These fracked-gas superhighways are scheduled for final regulatory decisions in mid-December. Unless we ramp up our protests, the pipelines could start construction very soon.
So it’s time! It’s time for the biggest public protest ever organized against these destructive pipelines.
Here’s our goal: To bring so many moms and dads and farmers and students to Richmond on Saturday, December 2nd that we can literally form a human ring around the Capitol building and the Governor’s mansion. That’s right, we’re going to gather in Richmond, hold a rally with inspiring speakers, and then form a first-in-history, shoulder-to-shoulder, circle-of-citizens around our state government. And after that, stick around for a cool concert at The National theater.
Won’t you join the “Water is Life Rally and Concert” against the pipelines on Saturday, December 2nd at 1:00 pm in Richmond? Stand shoulder-to-shoulder in a massive, unbroken human chain around the Capitol building and the Governor’s mansion to say “no” to the ACP and MVP pipelines.
This one’s going to be big. A coalition including CCAN, the Virginia Sierra Club, Appalachian Voices, and dozens of other groups will be sponsoring this event. We’ll show Governor McAuliffe, Governor-elect Ralph Northam, and the new and old members of the General Assembly that WE ARE NOT GOING AWAY.
If built, these pipelines would warm our planet, cost ratepayers billions of dollars, and steal property from Virginia farmers and landowners. Most of all, they would be a threat to our drinking water and our rivers and wetlands across hundreds of miles of the region, from the West Virginia border to the Virginia coast to the North Carolina border.
Bring your family and friends to the rally and human chain, which will happen from 1:00-2:00 pm. It will be followed immediately by a wonderful and free concert from 2:00-4:30 pm two blocks away at The National theater in downtown Richmond.
Please join the “Water is Life Rally and Concert” against the pipelines on Saturday, December 2nd at 1:00 pm in Richmond. Stand shoulder-to-shoulder in a massive, unbroken human chain around the Capitol building and the Governor’s mansion, then stay for the concert just two blocks away.
We have to be creative and loud on December 2nd because, frankly, time is running out. The State’s Water Control Board will hold final hearings in Richmond on the MVP (Dec 6-7) and the ACP (Dec 11-12). We’ll be in touch soon with information on how to attend and testify at those hearings.
But for now, please just tell all your friends and come join us on December 2nd. We’ll be putting pressure on the Water Control Board with our massive rally and we’ll be telling our current and new governor, and House of Delegates, that water is indeed life and we intend to preserve it for all our children!
See you on December 2nd.
Sincerely, Mike Tidwell, Executive Director, Chesapeake Climate Action Network
