MarkWest Energy Partners Signs Agreements with Antero Resources to Expand Sherwood Processing Complex to 1 Bcf/d

DENVER — MarkWest Energy Partners, L.P. announced the completion of long-term, fee-based agreements with Antero Resources for the development of an additional cryogenic gas processing plant at the Partnership’s Sherwood complex in Doddridge County, West Virginia.
Under terms of the agreements, MarkWest will construct a fifth 200 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) processing facility that is expected to begin operations in the third quarter of 2014. Upon completion of the new plant, the Sherwood complex will have 1 billion cubic feet per day (Bcf/d) of total processing capacity.
Antero is a premier producer in the Northeast and is aggressively developing their acreage position throughout the rich-gas Marcellus. The Sherwood complex currently consists of two plants with 400 MMcf/d of capacity and is operating near full utilization. By the end of this year, MarkWest will bring online a third 200 MMcf/d plant at the complex and is quickly moving forward with the construction of a fourth plant by the second quarter of 2014.
Antero’s natural gas liquids (NGLs) recovered at the Sherwood complex are currently being delivered to MarkWest’s Houston complex in Washington County, Pennsylvania for fractionation and marketing. The Houston complex is the largest fractionation facility in the Northeast and provides extensive logistics services, including storage and the delivery of purity products to market by truck, rail and pipeline.
In addition, the Houston complex offers Marcellus producers the first large-scale de-ethanization facility in the Northeast capable of producing purity ethane for delivery to Mariner West, and ultimately to the ATEX and Mariner East projects.

DENVER, Nov 08, 2013 (BUSINESS WIRE) — MarkWest Energy Partners, L.P. MWE +1.80% (“MarkWest or the Partnership”) announced today an operational update regarding the development of midstream infrastructure projects in the heart of the rich-gas areas of the Marcellus and Utica Shales. MarkWest new projects are occurring at eight large-scale complexes in Ohio, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia and are expected to increase the Partnership’s total processing capacity to over 4 billion cubic feet (Bcf/d) and total fractionation capacity to nearly 300,000 barrels per day (Bbl/d) by the end of 2014.
In the Marcellus, MarkWest has commenced operations of Majorsville V, a 200 million cubic feet per day (MMcf/d) plant at the Majorsville complex in Marshall County, West Virginia. The new plant supports growing rich-gas production from Chesapeake Energy Corporation and Statoil and increases the total processing capacity at the complex to 670 MMcf/d. The Partnership expects to complete an additional 200 MMcf/d plant during the first quarter of 2014 and will bring online a sixth plant in early 2016. Upon completion of these facilities, the Majorsville complex will have over 1 Bcf/d of capacity.
Over the next month, MarkWest will also bring online its second large scale de-ethanizer in the Marcellus Shale at the Majorsville complex. The new facility will double the Partnership’s purity ethane fractionation capacity to 78,000 Bbl/d in the Marcellus Shale and provide producer customers’ with the ability to meet residue gas quality specifications and downstream ethane pipeline commitments. Ethane produced at the new Majorsville fractionation facility will initially be delivered into the Mariner West pipeline and, in the future, to the ATEX and Mariner East pipeline projects

Chartiers Township couples sue MarkWest in Washington County Court

Two couples who live near a Marcellus Shale natural gas processing plant in Chartiers Township filed a lawsuit against the operators of the facility Monday in Washington County Court, claiming it’s creating pollution that is making them ill.
Charles and Deborah Sethman and Shawn and Erin Sethman named MarkWest Liberty Midstream & Resources and Sunoco Inc. in the three-count lawsuit alleging the plant has become a nuisance and is trespassing on its neighbors’ air space, court records show.
The lawsuit seeks more than $50,000 from the companies. The Sethmans claim they have “suffered damages, including diminution of property value, and loss of enjoyment and exclusive use of property.”
MarkWest in 2011 began operating a cryogenic plant at 800 Western Ave. in Chartiers, as well as a network of pipelines transporting natural gas to and from the plant.
The Sethmans, who live in the 900 block of Western Avenue, claim they have lived with “smoke, fumes, noxious and chemical discharges” from the plant, and that it also causes home vibrations and pollution that has made them sick.
The physical effects they suffer include “watering eyes, burning nose, sleep disturbances and respiratory ailments,” the lawsuit alleges.
The Sethmans also state they have information that the plant fails to comply with applicable state, local and federal laws and has received “at least one notice of violation from the state Department of Environmental Protection.
The DEP issued a notice of violation in July for failure to notify the department of a problem that month with a new de-ethinizer at the plant. The DEP also issued a violation notice to the company in December 2012 over a problem there involving smoke.
MarkWest spokesman Robert McHale could not be reached Monday afternoon. The attorney representing the plaintiffs, Jason E. Luckasevic, did not return a message.
