Year-long Marcellus Shale Research Project Releases Results

by Nicole Good on January 20, 2012

You want to explore this new website: the Marcellus Outreach, from the Paleontological Research Institution (PRI).   Take some time to explore it.  You’ll be glad you did.

PRI spent a year researching the Marcellus Shale and the effects of hydrofracking, made possible by a $250,000 grant from the National Science Foundation.  In the write-up by YNN, PRI director Warren Allmon said of their work that, “Science is not in the business of telling people what to do.  Science is not about what we should do. Science is about how the world is.”

Thanks to this, a fascinating collection of easy-to-read papers are available for your learning pleasure.  You might choose to get started by reading their discussion on NORMS, or brush up on your understanding of the differences between conventional and unconventional gas drilling.  For a broader overview, examine how the Marcellus Shale fits into our total energy usage in the United States.  Choose your favorite article, call your state senator(s), and ask them if they’ve read it.
